What is precious metal clay?

Metal clay consists of very small particles of metal mixed with an organic binder and water. It can be shaped just like any soft clay, by hand, molds, or texture plates.

After drying, the piece is sanded, shaped and refined. From there, the piece is fired in a kiln at approximately 1650 degrees Fahrenheit for two hours. The binding burns away during the firing process, leaving the pure metal behind.

The piece is polished, tumbled for shine, and then oxidized to create depth and highlight the texture.
